Motorcyclists Ride Despite Change of Season
· A layer of dry leaves on the road will reduce traction, and mixed with
moisture and cool weather can become slick. Remember, the temperature underneath
a layer of leaves can be five to seven degrees colder than the air above, so
slippery conditions are more likely.
· Dress in layers to help beat the cooler temperatures as cold hands and feet
don’t react well.
· Wear reflective pants and a reflective jacket when riding in the dark.
· Before heading out, give some thought to the sun’s position along the
route. If you’re riding eastward, try to do so in the afternoon or evening so
the sun is behind you. If westward bound, set out in the morning and keep the
sun to your back. Overall, try and take the north or southbound trips late in
the afternoon and do east or westward traveling according to the sun’s
position earlier in the day.
